Third Party NHS Budgets

Personal Health Budgets

People who are eligible for Continuing Healthcare Funding (CHC)or s117 Aftercare arrangements now have a legal right to ask for a personal health budget which can be taken as follows:

01

Notional Budget

The NHS manages the budget and arranges care and support for the person according to their wishes

02

Direct Payment

The budget holder receives their money in their bank account (or an equivalent account), and takes responsibility for purchasing care and support.

03

Third Party Budget

An organisation independent of the person, the local authority and NHS commissioners manages the personal health budget and is responsible for ensuring the right care is put in place, working in partnership with the person and their family to ensure the agreed outcomes can be achieved. This is also known as an Individual Service Fund.

04

A Mixture

A mixture of any of theses three options
